'Let's got to Sweetwater Restaurant, they serve the best western food in Johor Bahru!' - "That is what I want people to say about Sweetwater," says proud owner and executive chef Hans Durst.
The restaurant has barely been open for a month and already that is the response being generated. "People are excited about coming here, the menu is full of surprises; where else in Johor Bahru can you have buttery scallops set on spinach rockefeller with burnt orange vinaigrette or grilled lamb cutlets served with red onion, eggplant, tabbouli, marinated cheese and capsicum essence?"
The menu is a smorgasbord of traditional and modern dishes inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, including Italian pasta's and designer pizza's, Spanish Paella's, Moroccan chicken dishes, Greek salads, and fresh fish done in a fresh French way.
Desserts include a fruity pineapple carpaccio with strawberry gelato and rosemary syrup and a very parisian bittersweet chocolate-hazelnut souffle with hazelnut whipped cream.
And the wine list was expertly put together to compliment the menu and includes new and old world white and red wines, including a very drinkable Durbanville Hills Cabernet Sauvignon.
"It's not just about the food though, it's about the vibe too. I put a lot of effort into decorating the restaurant so that customers have something pleasing to look at while dining. The restaurant is divided into different sections and tables are spaced apart so that people have privacy," says Hans.
The restaurant also includes a very trendy bar and bar lounge where one can have a drink while waiting for a table or for guests. "People often just end up eating in the bar lounge, it's a very comfortable room!"
